The Society for Marine Mammalogy (“Society”) takes your right to privacy seriously, and wants you to feel comfortable using this website. This privacy policy deals with personally- identifiable information (referred to as “data” below) that may be collected by this website.     The Society for Marine Mammalogy does not share, sell or distribute information about our members with any other institution (commercial or otherwise), for any purpose. On very rare occasions, the Society will rent on a one-time-use-only basis its membership directory address list to publishers that wish to advertise a new publication the Society believes would be of interest to its membership. Note: e-mail addresses are NOT included with the shared information.
    Registration for a user account on this website automatically adds your email address to the Society’s private email mailing list. The Society for Marine Mammalogy does not share, sell or distribute these email addresses with any other institution (commercial or otherwise), for any purpose. If you wish to opt-out of this list, you can do so by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any email you receive or by sending an email to with the subject “Unsubscribe”.

  4. Editing or deleting your account information
    You are provided with the ability to edit the information stored for your user account information by way of the Edit Profile link in the Member Area after paying for a Society membership.     Content or other data that you may have provided, and that is not stored within your user account, such as articles published, may continue to remain on the website at the Society’s discretion, even after your user account is deleted. Please see the website’s Terms of Use for more information.

    Changes may be made to this policy from time to time. You will be notified of substantial changes to this policy either by through the posting of a prominent announcement on the website, and/or by a mail message sent to the e-mail address you have provided, which is stored within your Profile settings.

    While this privacy policy states standards for maintenance of data, and while efforts will be made to meet the said standards, the Society is not in a position to guarantee compliance with these standards. There may be factors beyond the Society’s control that may result in disclosure of data. Consequently, the Society offers no warranties or representations as regards maintenance or non-disclosure of data.
