Alaska Student Chapter of the Society for Marine Mammalogy (AKSMM)

Welcome to the webpage for the Alaska Student Chapter of the Society for Marine Mammalogy (AKSMM)! Our chapter was founded to the community of marine mammal graduate and undergraduate students in the state of Alaska.
Research in Alaska poses a set of unique challenges and part of our goal as a chapter is to assist each other in overcoming these issues. We host quarterly meetings where we discuss these issues, invite researchers to speak, and to coordinate chapter activities. It is the ultimate goal of the AKSMM to foster a sense of comradery and collaboration in a state where we are stretched far and wide.
Our chapter is open to all Alaskan student researchers. Check out our Facebook group page for more information

2023 Fundraisers!

Juneau Whale Watching Tour

The Alaska Student Chapter of the Society for Marine Mammalogy (AKSMM)invites you to join us for a whale watching fundraiser this summer! 100% of proceeds from this tour will directly support student research, travel, education, & outreach. In addition to a trained naturalist with Juneau Whale Watch, students will share details about their on-going research in Alaska ,anecdotes about the adventures and challenges of fieldwork, and divulge their own marine science tidbits, making this a unique opportunity for members of the Juneau community to learn about current student-driven marine research around the state. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase on board!
