Dr. Victor B. Scheffer passes away at age 104

Dr. Victor B. Scheffer passed away on September 20, 2011 at age 104.
He worked as a biologist for the US Fish and Wildlife Service and later was in charge of pinniped research at the National Marine Mammal Laboratory in Seattle. He was a lecturer at the University of Washington and was the first chairman of the Marine Mammal Commission, from 1973 to 1976.
A passionate conservationist, Vic sparked the worldwide movement to ban whale hunting with his book, The Year of The Whale. The book received the John Burrough's Medal in 1969 for best natural history book.
